Media Roundup: Saturday Morning

We're just a little bit away from the big day, but the weekend's going already. Go!

  • The New York Times has a nice general piece on how some people are being discouraged from attending the inauguration this weekend. Among the cited deterrents: the cold, the crowds and the security. It's still a historic day though. I suspect this may be a test of sensibilities and comfort zones for individuals.
  • As it is Washington, a mini-firestorm of criticism has arisen regarding the sale of broadcasting rights to certain media outlets. The Washington Post in Woodward-Bernstein fashion cover it. HBO has purchased the Sunday opening events at the Lincoln Memorial for $2.5 Million. Disney has purchased rights for two events -- a kid's concert at the Verizon Center on Monday (which is not open to the public despite earlier suggestions that it would be) and live coverage of the Inaugural Ball.
  • The echoes and parallels with Lincoln have been reverberating throughout this election. The Los Angeles Times has a nice feature on the Lincoln Bible, which was used at his inauguration in 1861. The Bible was purchased by the Clerk of the Supreme Court then and is considered one of the treasures in the Library of Congress.
